the studio: events: quilts 1700-2010, v&a exhibition

Next year for the first time ever, the V & A has made their magnificent collection of quilts the subject of a major exhibition.  This means that between March and July next year will probably be theDetail of Brayley Quilt, copyright V&A   only chance in our life time to see some of these quilts.  A treat not to be missed, so spoil yourself with a few days of quilt heaven in June 2010.

Isabel, Patricia and Ruth have taken away the stress of organising a trip to London by doing all the hard work for you.  Travel, accommodation, museum visit and some meals are all included.  One or two small treats – we’re keeping these as a surprise - are also included.  

Loch Lomond Quilt Show will take you from Dumbarton to Kensington (and back again!) with a group of likeminded quilt aficionados, great quilts and great company, what could be better.  Our accommodation will be at the Hotel Rembrandt, two minutes walk from the V & A’s door.  When at the V & A, we have arranged a private talk on the Museums’ quilt collection and plenty of time to explore and enjoy the exhibition.  The V & A will showcase many of the jewels of their own quilt collection along with treasures from other UK and international public and private collections around the world.

Intinerary:

Day 1      Leave Dumbarton early morning (pick-ups south of Glasgow and Penrith are possible) by                       coach.  Regular stops on way. Arrive London late afternoon/early evening.  Once settled,                   join us for a glass of something sparkly, followed by a three course dinner at the Hotel.

Day 2      Breakfast . Then to the V & A, for a private talk (1 hr) on the V & A’s quilt collection and the                exhibition. Spend as much time as you like (up to 8.30 pm) exploring the quilt exhibition and                the rest of the V & A.  The hotel is so close you can even go back and put your feet                            up for an hour or so and come back to look at other exhibits in the V&A.  

              Dinner is not included  – but we will make sure that no one (who doesn’t choose to) eats                 alone, by recommending a couple of local restaurants. 

              You could even book tickets for a show in the West End!

Day 3      Breakfast.  A whole day to explore Knightsbridge, Harrods, Fulham Road or even back to

              the V & A.                              

              Optional Outing (cost tba):  Come to Kew with us, Kew Gardens,  Kew Palace and the                 fabulous new gallery for Botanical Illustration......and maybe another stop on our way there.                  Coach travel included.            Evening meal not included – but as above.

Day 4      Breakfast.  Back on our coach to start the journey north, via York.  A visit to the Quilters’                    Guild Museum in York.    Then homewards, we will drop you off where we picked you up.

 Cost:     For the trip as outlined above, including travel, shared accommodation (single                      supplement applicable), meals listed, tickets to museums etc.  Does not include all meals, optional outing and spending money.    £450.
