Kantha Flower by Patricia Macindoe

Kantha stitching -  the historical and decorative use of running  stitch on clothing and textiles

from West Bengal, India and Bangladesh – is also used on quilts and throws  that are typically

made from old saris and cloth, layered and decorated with traditional folk, flora and fauna motifs.

Once a ‘needs must’ and rural domestic craft, old Kantha works are highly collectable and new

works are popular with tourists.

During the day you will learn the rudiments of Kantha by layering and hand-stitching A5 pieces

of white open-weave fabric, and decorating the layered panel with your imaginative choice of colourful motifs using embroidery threads.

Nothing could be simpler - a no-pressure hand-stitching day that may well result in aKantha Elelphant by Patricia Macindoe

naive textile piece suitable for framing.  No pressure!
